Editing Techniques Part 2

This editing technique is known as a dissolve and some very early examples of this appear in the movie Citizen Kane. Dissolve's normally last around 1-2 seconds and are normally used to end one sequence and start another and overlaps the 2 scenes for the duration of the effect. Not very common in most movies these days and even back in the 1940's and 50's they weren't used loads in one movie, it was kept to a minimum to add more of a dramatic effect.
